I agree with you, they played to the whole don't trade Reyes thing and thought keeping him would help raise attendance. It didn't work out and now they are screwed with the draft picks. You are very right if Beltran got em wheeler , Reyes definitely would have gotten more. -eddie

actually eddie the smart move was to trade him before he got hurt. They absolutely knew that after the season they weren't going to be able to afford him even if he only signed for 90 million dollars.

Before he got hurt, they should have moved him and Beltran to the Giants. Gary Brown, Zach Wheeler, Francisco Peguero, Eric Surkamp and possibly a reliever would have been a good haul. Now they made their money and get a possible 3rd or 4th round pick alongside a supplemental pick. Only good news is the mets in 2013.

I'd kill for Cuban - but not gonna happen. I don't think the other owners would vote him in. Same goes for Prohkarov. I dont think he'd be interested anyways - do they even play baseball in Mother Russia?

I'd love if someone like him did. If he took the strategy to just spend-spend-spend like he wants to do with Nets - it'd work in baseball.

I'd like one of these ridiculous rich owners that are taking over the English Premier League. They come in and dump billions to get the team started and continue to dump tons of personal money into the team. A fan can dream.

More then likely we will end up with some kind of business consortium or Jimmy Dolan. Dolan has no problem spending money - hopefully the Walsh success has taught him to keep his hands off the teams, but I don't think Dolan learns lessons does he? Probably has never had to.

I think Mark Cuban is licking his chops right now. I bet Mutant Mark Cuban (Prokerov) might be eyeing this situation as well. I just can't believe how much embarrasment this team has gone through since Doubleday and cashen sold their souls for the 86 Championship. But it figures that the top brass would be the most embarassing.

Actually this could be a good thing since we haven't won anything since they bought out Doubleday. Of course this throws more egg on the face of an already disgraced franchise, but maybe the Mets could be sold to a group that actually has some baseball acumen.

He hasn't developed as quickly as Ike or even Havens but I still think Holt could do something for us, I look forward to seeing what he does this season and you can tell between havens and flores the Mets are hoping to get a much cheaper replacement at SS then Reyes will cost in a year

You know me. Try as I might - until they show me otherwise I will be a pessimistic Mets fan.

I can get a buzz off the cool aide every now and again, but deep down I expect the worst and lately have been proven right more often then not.

I do like the direction they have chosen, and the Wilpons are now clearly hands off. That was the first step towards respectability.

I hear ya man.

I didn't go crazy about Collins over Backman cause I honestly don't really think it will matter. Target seasons for us are now 2-3 away and whomever they hired may not even be here by then.

I was ok with the Alderson hire, but LOVE LOVE LOVE the Depodesta and Ricciardi hires. I think they exactly what we need. Now assembled I love this front office.

The way I see it - and I am giving away future posts here haha - is the Mets are in the situation the Knicks were in 2-3 years ago when Walsh took over. They had to wait out bad money for a few years. The Mets are the same - hopefully just this season but possibly next as well.

Btw - congrats on moving in with the GF!

Bri, Ill tell you where I've been, pissed off that the former regime was given several extra shots then it deserved, i looked at the philosophy if i dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all, i am excited that alderson is in charge and am looking for him to turn it around, yes i wish it was backman but think alderson deserves a shot to prove he knows what he is doing, besides coaching and moving in with my girlfriend i will stay commited to blogging on the metsies even though i want to pull my hair out at times i still watch every game even tho im 3000 miles away, LGM

I think my biggest thing is just to make it interesting again, I feel most fans felt hopeless with the current braintrust so they just ignored the second half of the season, i know in 05 even though not in the playoff race it was exciting baseball just to see them play well and get over .500, and give hope that 06 would be a good season, i just want some hope in 11 and the possibility of some october baseball in 12

Thanks for the good news Eddie.

My only major concern is that they fire both - a show of great confidence to fans - and then the Wilpons hire a coach first.

They know they have to pay Omar his money - so they go with the cheap in-house option of Wally to ensure they don't have to pay a lot of money for their next coach while paying Omar to do nothing.

This will seriously handcuff them in a GM search and I am afraid they will get nothing but a puppet GM.

They need to fire these two clowns (I am ok with just re-assigning Omar who cares) and then they conduct a long search and hire a top of the line GM.

They hand him the keys and let him make all the firings and hirings. Any competent and desirable GM that will be able to do a real good job here will demand that much at least.

For me the firings wont tell the whole story, it will be the Mets next move that will either intrigue me - or alienate me even more so. Do they go bush-league and assume us fans stupid and hire Backman before they hire a GM - or do they do the smart baseball move and start the rebuilding of the franchise by hiring a smart baseball mind and letting him run the show?

Only time will tell....

another idea could be coaches challenges like in the NFL. maybe 2 per game with umpires making the call past the 7th or something like that. does make sense though.

I actually have to say that Michael Kay did mention on his radio show that the Mets should look into making a deal with Wiggy included if they do in fact go after millwood. It probably would not cost us our "star" prospects maybe one real young potential stud, but Wiggington would be a perfect fit since he can play all around the field (we can eliminate Tatis) and then if and when we get beltran back we could set GMJ on fire using Ollie as a match. But of course Omar will tell you that it would cost too much money and we will stand pat and watch ollie make his millions cleaning up 15 run deficits. If this move were to happen it would really light a fire under the team and the fans. But alas, I remain skeptical.
